New correspondent: Yinghan Jin from Zhejiang, China

Today our team was joined by an ambassador from another Chinese college: Yinghan Jin, studying Geographical Information Science at the Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. She is inspired to do something against global warming by analyzing data. Yinghan is very much motivated to join Cool Down The Planet and to help unroll our video platform. This means assist us find suitable subjects to be featured in her country. But first we asked her to answer some questions.

Yinghan Jin, can you introduce yourself?

My name is Yinghan Jin, an undergraduate student from School of Earth Sciences, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, China. I am majoring in Geographical Information Science. I like to travel around the world to experience distinctive cultures and to see wonderful sceneries. And also, I become much more concerned about the environment problems, and I wish I can do something. So joining this project is a great opportunity for me.

What motivated you to choose for this study?

Because I am interested in Earth, and want to learn more about the planet, I decided to choose one major in Earth Sciences area. Information and data about Earth are everywhere, and it is interesting to gather information and analyze it. For example, we can use satellite images to map sea surface temperature in global climate change study. Data can tell us much more than we expect.

What are your ambitions? How would you like to develop your future career?

I hope to continue my study Earth Sciences in the future. I would like to learn something more technical, so I might choose to study Environmental Engineering in my Master’s degree. My biggest ambition is to become someone who can change the world, and make the world a better place to live in. Honestly speaking, it is a tough and vacant goal, but at least I am trying.

Do you see any consequences from climate change in your region? If yes, can you give an example?

The impact of climate change is global, every place on the Earth is being effected directly or indirectly. In recent years I feel a strong sense of climate change, for example, summer becomes hotter than before. It even reached over 40 degrees in my hometown last summer, which never happened during the past several decades. In addition to that, the frequency of extreme weather is getting higher and higher.

What do you consider is a strong quality of the Cool Down The Planet formula?

It can inspire people from all over the word to find solutions on environmental problems, and can also raise people’s awareness of climate change. It is not just about taking the challenges and solving problems, but also about engaging more and more people to make efforts to change the situation. Cool Down the Planet will become a powerful way to innovate, to create, to cool down the Earth.
